Affordable cholesterol screening one way to improve health during lean economic times
January 25, 2010

Trinity and its Community Health Partners will offer a low-cost blood cholesterol screening from 7-9 am, February 8-12, at Trinity VNHA, 106 19th Avenue, Suite 101 in Moline, and at Trinity at Terrace Park, 4500 Utica Ridge Road in Bettendorf.

The screening is presented by Trinity Regional Health System and Community Health Partners The Dispatch, Rock Island Argus, Rock Island Fitness and Activity Center, Quad-City Radio Group and KWQC-TV6. Additional support for the screening is provided by Metropolitan Medical Laboratory.

The fasting blood cholesterol test will be offered for $20 per person. The blood test will identify total cholesterol level, High Density Lipoproteins (HDL), Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL) and triglyceride level. Participants should have nothing to eat or drink for 12 hours prior to the screening.

“Knowing your cholesterol levels is a good first step in managing your overall heart health,” said Trinity clinics coordinator Penny Knox, RN. “People who either don’t have insurance or have high deductible plans are able to get their numbers without a more costly office or lab visit.”

Screening participants will receive a report and their lab values a couple weeks after the screening. The report will outline risk factors and offer recommendations for reducing those risks. Participants whose results indicate a possible health concern will be asked to follow-up with their physician. Last year nearly 70% of those screened had lab values outside of normal ranges.

For more information, call Trinity’s My Nurse at (309) 779-2000 or (877) 242-8899. No appointment is necessary.
